Default Dehydrated: Anybody been there?

I had a scary experience yesteday.

About 30 minutes into a morining ride, I started feeling sick to the stomach and
my heartbeat became noticibly irregular. Sat down for awhile, felt a little
better, decided to turn around and ride home...felt worse immediately,
experienced some dizziness.

Called my wife to come and drive me home.

Felt lousy most of the rest of the day - extremely quick to tire, heartbeat up
around 140 just sitting in a chair... Slowly got better over the course of the
day.

I don't think it was a heart attack because I'd had a 'clean' cardiac
catheterization only a couple of weeks before - having foolishly told my doc
about some chest discomfort that I'd experienced. That was good for a week's
lost pay while going here and there for various diagnostic procedures prior to
the cath.

I did, however, wind up chugging about three very large glasses of water with
dinner that nite and it tasted *really* good.... I'd also been under a lot of
stress - I'm a contractor and my contract with a place I'd been serving for
about 10 years finally expired and was not renewed. Working 10-hour days to
clean up loose ends and all that....

Somebody's gonna say "don't mess around, see a doctor immediately...". Been
there as described above...lost the pay, no disease found....

So, bottom line, was my little adventure consistant with dehydration?

IANAD, yadda-yadda, but:

if you're noticing your heartbeat becoming irregular, you really should get
it checked out. does this happen regularly?

Not with my experiences..

My HR doesn't go up noticeably and I don't
feel sick to the stomach. Dehydration for me
doesn't show its effects until I get off the bike.
Then it's a bad headache, lethargy and drink
drink drink until it goes away. I will often feel
crap the next day too.
I find it hard to rehydrate sometimes.

See a different doctor - what you wrote sounds
more serious to me. Could just be an illness or
stress but it doesn't match my dehydration
symptoms. Oh, the dizziness could be bonking?
Did you eat much? Was it a long or intense ride?
Another thing that lets me know I'm dehydrated
is blurry vision. It's like my eyeballs dry up... I
have to blink lots.

Not really.

Something is missing here. It would take more than one incidence of chest
pain casualy mentioned to your doctor to buy you a cardiac cath.

Lots of things could cause what you described, but with your history, trying
to convince yourself that it was dehydration sounds like a really bad
idea.

Put my vote in the "go see your doctor" column.

This ride started around 0800. I never ride that hard, but I'm most definately
*not* a morning person. The timing of this one was an anomaly.

Come to think of it, something similar happened when I went to the gym a long
time ago early (for me, at least) in the morning. In retrospect, it was like
my body just ran out of something. Probably not food because I typically ride
during lunch hour without eating lunch first and have no problems.

Maybe I'm grasping at straws here....but I *really* don't want to get sucked
into another round with the medical industry.... I'm gonna wait until early
afternoon today, try a test run, give a little more attention to what's going
on inside, and hope...

Been there, done that, almost bought the farm.
Get your ass back to the doctor.

Extreme dehydration in 30 minutes? Don't kill yourself coming up with
theories.
