Default Road Bike Pedal Recommendation?

It's time to get new pedals. I have used the old Time Equipe pedals
for many years (the ones that use the two-part cleats). I want pedals
with comparable float (at least 10 degrees) and a realtively large
platform. It would also be helpful if i didn't have to get new shoes;
I have an older pair of Sidi Genius, the ones that use different
plates on the soles for different cleat bolt patterns.

Any recommendations?

Do I need a new adapter plate and, if so, where can I find them?

If you have a 4 bolt Time set up, no..just bolt the cleat right onto
the shoe w/o the 3 bolt plate first.

i have the plate used for the older Time two-piece cleats and each
part of the cleat has two screws/bolts. Is that what you are referring
to? Also, would that work for the cleats that come with the Time RXS
pedal?

Those 4 holes are the same as the 4 holes in the Speedplay cleat w/o
the 3 bolt plate for Look style shoes.

I've had bad experiences with the road Wellgo SPD-style pedals. The
one piece "cleat receiver" on the pedal tends to break off at the "toe
portion" over time...I've had this happen twice to me already.
Definitely a manufacturing/design flaw since the break occurs where
the flat metal piece is formed into a 90 degree angle.

Yeah, they're pretty inexpensive for their weight/performance...but
after breaking on me twice, I decided I was being "penny-wise and
pound-foolish".

I use the mtb versions on all my bikes. I've been using the nashbar
versions since they first came out. They've been in crashes and all
kinds of abuse. They are not red anymore and they've never been
overhauled. But they keep working.

I have the MTB versions as well (which is why I got the road versions
in the first place). The MTB versions are different, however in that
the "toe portion" of the pedal receiver is 2-piece instead of 1-piece
like the road versions.

In fact, after my last road version broke on me, I put some 2-sided
MTB pedals on to tide me over until I decided on what road pedals I
wanted to use.
