Default Road Bike Pedal Recommendation?

It's time to get new pedals. I have used the old Time Equipe pedals
for many years (the ones that use the two-part cleats). I want pedals
with comparable float (at least 10 degrees) and a realtively large
platform. It would also be helpful if i didn't have to get new shoes;
I have an older pair of Sidi Genius, the ones that use different
plates on the soles for different cleat bolt patterns.

Any recommendations?

Do I need a new adapter plate and, if so, where can I find them?

Crank Brothers? You even get a choice of bolt patterns.
(I use Look KeOs which are great, plenty of float but not exactly
big.)

when using a shoe with a rigid sole, what benefit do you think a "large
platform" affords you?

I feels like it gives my extra wide feet more support.

oops, quick google, only 6 float

Modern pedals do tend to be smaller, partly so they can be lighter.

How about the Campy pro fit pedals; are they any good?

Yes and no g. Great when they work; not so great when you put new
plastic AND steel ($$$) cleat parts on and the pedal releases even
easier than it did with old, clearly worn stuff on there. Well,
releases "sideways" anyhow because one redeeming feature I found with
the ProFits was, as long as you kept your foot pointed straight ahead,
the cleat would stay in even when really worn. Much better than the
Looks I used previously.

Confessing, I got halfway ("stopped before going to Home Depot to buy
a clamp, as seen in Campy Only") through replacing the pedal springs
(more $$$) on one of my four sets of Campy Chorus Profits and went to
Shimano 6610's-- one pair to start and then more for "the fleet" when
I found I liked them.

They've held up very well (two years approx. on the oldest, not tons
of miles), the cleats last well during limited-distance, store-stop
walking, and have "pontoons" that make said walking much less
precarious than Look or Campy IME.

The newer 6620's (and Du-race equivalent) have metal plate contact
areas that should last much longer than the replaceable plastic ones
on the earlier-model 6610's; I think there's quite a bit more area,
too.

They can be a little sticky to get into, but mostly because (for me),
I tend to forget which pedals I'm riding and "fail to stab correctly".
Do it right, easy entry; the "out" seems somewhat stout which works
for me. --D-y

How about the Time RXS models?

The adapter plates for older Sidi shoes are available at
excelsports.com . I just bought a set last week after switching from
SPD-style road pedals to the RXS.
