Should I get a Rohloff Speedhub?
I'm considering getting one of those 14-speed internally geared
Rohloff hubs, either for my current bike, or -- preferably -- for a new rig (road sport/touring bike). Anyone know how well they hold up over the years? (I'm getting sick and tired of chains falling off after a shift at the most inoppertune moments (ie., steep hill) , not shifting right, etc . . . and I'm still using 8 & 9 speeds . . . I pray to God I never get stuck having to use that 10 & 11(!!!!) speed crap!) Actually, what I'd REALLY like to do is pair it with one of those SPOTS bikes/carbon belt drive system, though I'm not sure how compatible the 2 are . . . anyone know? Is there a dealer who sells a complete bike with the Rohloff? (I'd prefer a TI frame.) Are there any single speed/track frames with 135mm spacing? Any "horror stories" with the hubs? (My only fear would be trashing the rear wheel while on tour . . . its not like you can find a shop and pick up any Shimano wheel, and off you go . . .) |
