Leather Touring Shoes non-SPD.... where?
I'm still looking for a pair of classic leather touring shoes.
Apparently the SIDI's that were made for Rivendell are no longer made, and Carnac seems to have a couple of pairs for import but my feet are very wide, and I'm doubtful. What is my best bet for finding a pair of these used? Bicycle swaps? Flea-markets? Who's seen shops with tons of old shoes. In Portland, OR there were tons of old Look/Time/SPD style shoes, but these leather styled ones seem more rare. mark beattie mrb_nospam aat yahoo dawt com washington d.c. |

Carnacs run wide and St. John Street Cycles seem like good people to deal with. ======== I ride both. I much prefer the Sidi's, which I ride spring thru fall, but ride the Carnacs, under booties, all winter with no issues. Both shoes are very well made, and should last for years. The uppers are of different materials. The Sidi'a are Lorica, while the Carlits are hide The Sidi's do not have a raised heel; the Carnacs do. FYI...for size comparision: I wear a 44 Sidi Touring and a 43 Carlit. The 43 Carlit is wider and fits a little longer than the 44 Sidi. A 42 Carnac would probably be equal to, or very slightly smaller than, the 44 Sidi. The 43 Carnacs are longer/wider enuf to handle 2 pair of sox, while the 44 Sidi's are not quite able to do that without discomfort. Hope this helps. And, if you find a Sidi stash, I'm looking, too.
