Is titanium a good material for a touring bike?

I don't tour. Probably never will...

_ I do occaisonally for 3 or 4 days at a stretch.

But one recurrant issue I hear from the hardcore is repairability. Can Jose'
braze it back together for you 200 miles from nowhere?

_ I think this is way overstated. What's a much more
realistic consideration is that steel bikes can be bent back into some
kind of shape without drastic consquences.

Steel, probably.
Titanium, doubtful AFIK.

_ Titanium, if sturdily built enough would probably be just fine,
but saving a pound on the frame at a very high cost makes
almost no sense when you're going to load at least 20 or 30 lbs
of gear on it. If you're credit card touring, then it might
make some sense. Most fully loaded bike tourers tend to be
on the frugal side, and getting touring appropriate geometry
and stiffness is generally a lot cheaper in steel.

_ However, given all that there is somebody somewhere who
has done a multi-week tour on just about any kind of bike
you can name. I'd focus a lot more on comfort, fit and how
the bike handles fully loaded rather than what material the
bike is made of.
