Default Very important cyclists on cargo bikes are more important thananti-terror measures.

“The barrier is an eyesore and not appropriate to the proper setting.
Important groups of users such as cargo bikes and child transporters
have been excluded because the gap is too narrow. Only one gap has been
provided for cyclists so the design is malicious and will result in
cycle accidents."

The gap is 1.2m wide.

Is this sympathy or sarcasm?

It's Kings Parade in Cambridge - one of the few places in the country
with sensible levels of cycling. Say a median bike is 500mm wide,
they've left a gap 2.4 vehicles wide. That would be like putting in a
pinch-point on the M25 that forces all the vehicles on both
carriageways through a gap under 4.8m wide. It seems entirely
foreseeable that there will be accidents.

At the weekend in the summer I doubt you'll get all the pedestrians
through either.

Ceashes will only happen if the cyclists are too stupid to pause as
needed.
Pedestrians have their own chicane access on the pavement.
