first day of spring (was Why exactly can't you go for a ride?)
[newsgroup prunage]
In article , "Ken [NY]" writes: Well, like you said, you live on the left coast where you can ride a bike all year. Here in NY, we have had yet another brutal winter of record snows (global cooling?) which had me using a snowblower for almost the entire season. And it still is windy and in the 30s and 40s here, which I just cannot handle. My racing bike sits attached to my rollers in the sunroom, but riding that way is just not satisfactory. So for now, running is my only exercise, unless we get a late blizzard like a few years ago and I have to haul out the old snowblower again. First day of (Northern Hemisphere) Spring today. Big fat soggy deal, eh? :-) Happy Vernal Equinox. I guess for you East Coasters, March came in like a lion, and is going out like the same lion, after taking a dump and making a general mess everywhere on the way through. Here in the PNW, March came in like a porcupine and is going out like a sea otter. cheers, Tom -- -- Nothing is safe from me. Above address is just a spam midden. Zoot Katz writes: Happy Now Ruz! Darn it, I'm missing out on Persian New Year again. I like that whitefish stuff. According to Persian legend, the earth's axis spins on one horn of a giant bull. Once a year, during the vernal equinox, the bull tosses the earth from one horn to the other. His movements are so smooth that this shift can only be detected by observing the movements of an egg on a polished surface. Members of the family gather to watch the egg and, if the egg does not move at the proper time, an adult taps it. Equinoxen are supposed to be the only times of year an egg can be balanced on end, too. cheers, Tom -- -- Nothing is safe from me. Above address is just a spam midden.
