Cyclist gets £65000 compo from wreckless dog owner
QUOTE:
"A cyclist has successfully sued a dog owner for £65,000 after suffering serious injuries when his bike became tangled up in the pet's lead. Anthony Steele was thrown from his bike after the dog darted in front of him, causing the lead to get caught up in his spokes. The 59-year-old, who still suffers from headaches and dizziness following the fall, has now won a lengthy legal battle against the dog's owner." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...et-s-lead.html |

Why on earth was he riding on a promenade (somewhere that people walk, IIRC) Doubtless at speed, or it would not be training, travelling too fast for the conditions (or he could have stopped in time) Rang his bell? Yeah right. This should have been thrown out years ago. |

I think this is just one of those occasions. However, Mr Steele is right to highlight the dangers of retractable dog leads. Two years ago my parents had to call 999 for a woman whose calf muscle had been ripped to shreds by a retractable lead, one end was held by a dog walker and the other end attached to a German shepherd chasing a swan into Chichester Harbour. (The ambulance couldn't get to the hapless woman, so the coastguard was called to rescue her). I very much doubt that the victim in this case has received £65,000 for her suffering. |
