Default "China limits new cars in Beijing"

Could this happen here and would it lead to an increase in cycling? Is
China now leading the world with its anti-car, anti-pollution stance?

"New rules have taken effect in China that restrict car purchases in
an effort to combat serious traffic woes in the capital, Beijing.

The city authorities announced on Thursday that 240,000 cars would be
registered by lottery in 2011 - a mere one-third of this year's total.

Car buyers have been swamping dealers in anticipation of the new
rules.

Traffic in Beijing, and related air pollution, is among the worst in
the world..."

Why are you posting a motoring topic to a cycling NG?

Because this important measure could increase the number of cyclists
on the roads and at the same time reduce the serious threat to them
posed by motorists..

Wrong again. It's because you are a car-hating bigot, nothing more.
You don't give a flying f*** if anything increases cycling, only
anything that censures or inconvenience motorists. If it weren't that,
you'd post other articles that encourage/increase cycling that don't
have a reference to driving/motoring.

Utter rubbish, this is nothing to do with the UK & nothing to do with
cycling.
You just trawl the net for any article that seems to be anti motorist
& then post it claiming that it has some relavance to cycling.
This article has about as much to do with cycling as you do, that is
nothing.

You are just annoyed for jingoistic reasons, plus the fact that you
have a total car dependency and you are not a real cyclist anyway.

I agree with the comments made by francis. You never comment on the
positive things, you are only ever negative.
You only promote cycling as a means to have a winge at motorist. Look
at your monthly CM posts, about an event that most real cyclists would
never go near because it gives us such a bad name.
Doug, unlike you I have never ever owned or run a car. I have never
ridden a motorbike. Unlike you I am not jealous of those you do own a
car. You are like an alcoholic sitting in a pub moaning about people
drinking, yet at the same time craving a pint yourself.

Why is it jingoistic to point out that China is not in the UK?

They don't like to admit that the UK is making less effort to combat
mass car abuse than China.

How do you know he owns a car?
How do you know he depends on a car?

I assume so from his typical anti-cyclist stance.

From the postings here it would seem that you are the only real
cyclist, and who would want to be like you?

No there are several real cyclists on URC but unfortunately they are
swamped and denigrated by motorist intruders.
