Emergency airlift as cyclist is hurt in fall
Aug 14 2008 by Rachel Moses, Port Talbot Guardian

A MOUNTAIN biker had to be airlifted to hospital after what started as
a weekend adventure turned to a dramatic rescue by Wales Air
Ambulance.

A man who had come off his bike at the low level cycle path at
Glyncorrwg had to be stretchered to hospital last Sunday.

Wales Air Ambulance, paramedics, and the fire service were called to
the scene.

Local resident Susan Goldsworthy witnessed the ordeal.

She said: “It happened at the mountain tracks by Glyncorrwg Ponds. It
was all very dramatic and the rescue services acted very swiftly.

“At first we thought it was just a practice run or training.

“It was only when we saw they had somebody on a body board that we
realised it was all for real.”

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We were called to assist at
5.14pm on Sunday evening at the low level cycle path at Glyncorrwg,
near Cymmer.

“One male was taken by air ambulance, and the fire service were
involved in assisting the crew.

“The fire crew from Cymmer attended the scene.”

The man was then flown to Merthyr General Hospital where he arrived at
6.23pm.”

A hospital spokesman said the man’s condition was stable.
