Default Record/Chorus cassette damaged

The teeth on the second and third cogs on my Record (Chorus?) 9 speed
cassette have some minor damage - the teeth are "hooked" just slightly so
that they make noise with a new, clean chain.

Is it worth trying to grind this material off so that the teeth are smooth,
or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new part (3 cog carrier set) for
$40?

If they're Record, they're titanium...any problem taking a Dremel tool to
titanium?

Wouldn't bother. they are just getting worn a bit...as long as they
don't skip, turn up yer Ipod.

No skip...but the noise bothers me.

If they're Record, the top 4 cogs are titanium and don't have great
longevity - it depends on your riding style, size, etc. but I went
through the 17/19 on mine afetr only about 2500 miles. Replaced it with
the corresponding Chorus part which has quasi-infinite longevity. It
works to mix/match a hybrid Record/Chorus cassette - I still have ti 23
and 25 on my 12-25 cassette but hardly use them. Can't imagine that
yours would have a good functional outcome or lifespan if you filed the
teeth. As Peter said, use it up and replace when it skips, which may be
soon.

Agree, personally, I find things like chains, cassettes and brake pads
to be "consumables". Unless you're racing or need that special edge, I
tend to buy the cheapest stuff and use it up.

Campy Veloce cassettes are very reasonably priced at about $60-80 each.
I have both a Record 9 cassette and a Veloce 9 and in your hand, you
can definitely feel a difference. Mount them onto a wheel and you
don't. Mount it on a bike, there's even less of a difference. Add your
body weight and well, any perceived difference is rounded out.
