I went and I read and it seems that disc brakes are not perfect. Never
have I heard of a front wheel making it past the 'Lawyer Lips', but the
article makes a good point about safety.
Why not also have the standard rim brakes also?
Cosmetics over safety?

Not that it means anything but I have seen bikes with a disc in front
and a rim brake in the rear, probably didn't come that way from the
factory though.

Very common on Walmart bikes.

What is relevant is that the back brake is not adequate on a steep dirt

This is of a weight distribution problem, not a brake problem.

That much is obvious. Front wheel cars are a total waste in a stoplight
drag race for the sane reason.
I do use the back break when I can so that the front will be fresh when
I do hit the steep parts.
The front break comes in just before the rear starts to skid.
