Re Global Warming
The news, yesterday, had it that it snowed in Tokyo, in November, for the first time in half a century. Obvious proof of global warming? |

Obvious proof that you don't know the difference between weather and climate. or local and global. It's fully expected that some areas will cool down - the UK and Ireland for example, may well lose the protection afforded by the Gulf Stream, and cool to the level more commonly associated with our latitude. The difference is in GLOBAL averages. |

The difference is in GLOBAL averages. Exactly! An example of how climatic change in one area can affectthe climate and weather in another area is Greenland. If the Greenland ice cap were to melt the influx of fresh water would almost certainly divert the Gulf Stream much further south than what it is now and that in turn could very well plunge much of the British Isles and Northern Europe into another ice age. Thus, warming in one area Greenland, can lead to massive cooling in another area. Cheers |

Per DougC:
So then,,,, it will be "global warming"... except where it gets cooler. That sounds a lot like regular old weather to me. If you want to have an informed opinion, you need to go to sources other than sound bytes and people with commercial agendas. It's not simple. If you see a simple answer, it's probably misleading. -- Pete Cresswell |

(EDENHOFER): "First of all, developed countries have basically expropriated the atmosphere of the world community. But one must say clearly that we redistribute de facto the world's wealth by climate policy. Obviously, the owners of coal and oil will not be enthusiastic about this. One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore, with problems such as deforestation or the ozone hole." -- Andrew Muzi www.yellowjersey.org/ Open every day since 1 April, 1971 |
