If you want to have an informed opinion, you need to go to sources other than sound bytes and people with commercial agendas. It's not simple. If you see a simple answer, it's probably misleading. I once read a learned dissertation alleging that as methane is a "warming" gas and cattle emit methane gas - quite a bit of it in fact - that the sacred cattle in India likely a factor in global warming. Given the logic presented and the furor generated I suggest that any discussion regarding global warming is akin to a discussion of chain lubes. The U.S., it is said, is the largest emitter of CO2, on a per capita basis, nearly three times greater than China. The "average Usian family has 1.9 automobiles. A simple reduction of cars to one per family would significantly reduce both Usian family debt and carbon emission. Will the U.S. do this? I read that three-quarters of all Usian homes are equipped with air conditioners, something that didn't even exist for the first 290 years of the country's existence. Will the U.S. population agree to reducing this number? In short any discussion of global warming is, in reality, simply a revisiting of a statement made by our Financial Manager during a manager's meeting to try and reduce costs, "Cost reduction is anything that doesn't effect me". |

Per John B Slocomb:
A simple reduction of cars to one per family would significantly reduce both Usian family debt and carbon emission. How do you figure? Two Cars: Johnny drives to school, parks, drives home One Car: Mommy drives Johnny to schools, drives home, drives back to school to pick Johnny up, drives home.... Double the trips, double the gasoline. -- Pete Cresswell |

Double the trips, double the gasoline. I think this is more likely: Two cars: Mom (and/or Dad) drives to work and drives home. Johnny drives to school and back. One car: Mom (and/or Dad) drives to work and drives home. Johnny takes the school bus. Or (gasp!) rides his bike. -- - Frank Krygowski |

The news, yesterday, had it that it snowed in Tokyo, in November, for the first time in half a century. Obvious proof of global warming? One U.S. lawmaker once brought a snowball into congress, to prove there was no global warming. The mind boggles. -- - Frank Krygowski |

Why can't you do all the jobs with the pickup? After all, a bloke in my high school class was famous for taking his date to the Junior Prom in a dump truck. I believe that he later married the girl so perhaps there is something about trucks and romance :-) |

Or we could move into Grace Village; they often take their residents on bus tours. What I can't figure out is how I got along for all those years with a family of 5 and only one car... and didn't feel deprived. |
