I mis-read the thread title and thought they had named a body of water for him. 'Kris Holm Creek?' i'm gonna say it again...cause i know thats what it is...but again you can ignore me. Put an extension on a allen key, and tighten the cranks. problem solved. you may think they are tight...they aren't. It might be the pedals... im not sure though. If it was then you would hear it everytime you did one rev not just when you jumped. -- timbob1907 forrestunifreak wrote: I'm addicted to placebo's. I had this happen to my KH-29XC. Here is how I solved it. It is not because your spokes are loose or your cranks are wrong--those are the right first things to check. It is the spokes clicking off each other, especially if you have black painted spokes. This will also manifest itself as a one-per-rev clicking sound...or, in your case because you probably always jump with the wheel in the same spot, a distinct click when you hop. Here is how you fix it. Get a candle and rub wax into the places where each set of spokes cross on the wheel. The lubrication from the candle will keep the spokes from making noise. It will last a long time before you have to do it again. Easy fix. Let us know if it works for you. It did for me. It is for this reason that any spokes I use in future wheel builds will be non-coated and shiny steel, since the coated or painted spokes get wear patterns and make noise as they flex after a while. Good luck, I'd like to hear if this solves your problem. If you try and squeeze a pair of spokes, do they move easily? If they do, then, even though the bike shop said that they are true, they may still need to be tightened. You can put wax on the areas that the spokes touch each other, all that will do is eliminate the noise, but not fix what's causing it. If you find that the spokes need to be tightened, you'll want to tighten each spoke the same amount. Start with a 1/2 turn each. After you've tightened each spoke, try the spoke squeeze again. If still loose, do another round of 1/2 turn tightening. Eventually you'll have a tight wheel that won't creak anymore. -- One on one "That's going to end up in somebody's sig." - rob.northcott ------------------------------------------------------------------------ One on one's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/5740 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/58506 |
