Back on the A12 - Cycle safety campaign starts again
Last summer regulars here will recall the A12 protest which ended up
with the police arresting me for obstruction but (surprise) their prosecution collapsed before getting to court. Anyway, with a spell of fine weather ahead and the Highways agency and the Minister for roads going from bad to worse - from idle to anti it is back on the A12. Out there this morning. No real problems. The police stopped me to 'discuss road safety' but the copper was an old style chap who knew the important points and was pretty clued up on the value of training. (Although 'why don't you cycle along the edge' was a bit rich when I'd just been finding out just how far you have to be out in the lane to stop people trying to slide past close.) Anyway the full details of what the campaign is all about are at http://www.eminent.demon.co.uk (Then follow the first link.) If anyone knows a better way to make the Highways agency publicly accountable then please let me know. Reports of media coverage outside Essex will be gratefully received. -- PETER FOX Not the same since the deckchair business folded www.eminent.demon.co.uk/wcc.htm Witham Cycling Campaign www.eminent.demon.co.uk/rides East Anglian Pub cycle rides |

You must have been pretty far into the lane to actually get pulled over! Generally it's pretty obvious where the best place is and that's where the road gets polished smooth by vehicles offside wheel. |

I hope your efforts have the desired effect this time and thus make the Highways Agency think twice before doing similar stupid things elsewhere. Regards, -david |

How can they arrest you for cycling on a dual carriageway? I was doing it on the A34 when I was 10 (OK, there was a bit less traffic then). |

Following on from Zog The Undeniable's message. . .

If they're stupid and want to hand me free publicity they can. -- PETER FOX Not the same since the bookshop idea was shelved 2 Tees Close, Witham, Essex.
