=x= The whole point of rec.bicycles.marketplace is that
messages such as these be posted there AND NOT ANYWHERE
ELSE. Cross-posting is spamming.

BFD, _Jym_. If you see FS in the subject line, don't read it. It's that
simple. Jail time must have made you a little testy.

It's not span - I'm just trying to sell a freaking bike - but thanks for the
explanation of newsgroup protocol, _Jym_. Cross-posting isn't spam - I'm
just trying to cover all the bases - why don't you work on solving some of
the more pressing problems in the world.

You were probably the kid that snitched on everyone else in school, too - a
real goody-goody - now you've graduated to being one of those newgroup
cops - hope that discovering my crime made your day.

I'm puzzled. Since you didn't trim and "Texas Yankee" top-posted, just who
in the hell are you talking about?

It's that simple if there are very small numbers of them, but if irregular
posts aren't pointed out, those small numbers could quickly grow and
suddenly the signal to noise ratio becomes that of other newsgroups (which
have become nearly worthless for on-topic content). Rapid "enforcement"
helps let others (who might have posted something similar) know that it's
not something that should be part of a particular newsgroup.

My guess is that Jym might not have been so vociferous if the original
postings hadn't also gone to rec.bicycles.marketplace (where they definitely
belong), indicating some awareness of the appropriate location.

Fair enough. But given the miscellaneous nature of this NG and the large
amount of off topic posts, it just doesn't seem like that big a deal.
