I found that the unit seems to have a lock up issue, but with the
latest release of the firmware from Garmin, it appears to be
completely resolved. I was not getting a charging notice, and would
have to issue a hard reset for the device, but it seems to have been
rectified with the 3.10 version.

I had that lockup problem when I first got it, just after they (I have
the 305) hit the market about a year ago I think, and a patch last
spring already fixed that. I'm not sure if that was fixed by 2.9 or
one earlier. The bad grade reading was a big problem too, and fixed
about 6 months ago I think. But it was fairly non-functional with the
lockup problem, although the software is pretty mature at this point,
and it pretty much as advertised. I've been slightly annoyed by the
misreading battery charge level, and just learned by experience that a
charge lasts about 5 hours, which I see was fixed, as you mention, by
3.0. I was still on 2.9. Thanks for the heads up. I thought I
sighed up for auto email notification of updates. I guess not, so I
just signed up for that.

It's one fantastic tool, btw. All it lacks is a power readout, so I
have to run the powertap output separately, and end up with 2 separate
workout files in CyclingPeaks WKO+ that I can't easily merge. It
would be nice to compare power with grade and altitude. CyclingPeaks
should include a tool to merge those inputs.

Ken, I've occasionally had a lock-up with my 205 but I don't know how
to check the sw version.

What's more concerning to me is the limited battery life. Garmin
claims a life of "up to 14 hours" but I think it is more like 5 hours
max.

I find the software even more limiting. You' can't seem to create a
route in Garmap by defining waypoints and then have the software route
(via roads) between the points. All it does is goes straight as the
crow flies from one point to the next. Doesn't Garmin know we're on
bicycles, not aeroplanes?

I find the unit very, very disappointing.
