Pedal suggestions, please.
I haven't bought a flat pedal in decades and could benefit from some experience. UPS is bringing a single speed IRO cross frame I'll be setting up with mustache bars for mild trails and bad roads and otherwise having fun. Clips and straps make sense unless I race it and that I'm equipped for that. So, what's a good, solid, nonexpensive, non-boat-achor pedal nowadays? Ron I'm sure Christophe will still have straps for me, So, what'd you expect from a tiger. |

Light, wide, handsome, classic. Top up with grease first thing and dial in the bearings. I ride them without straps on a city bike as they look so nice, but they really pair up nicely with some chrome clips. http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking...PDNCMKS/PD4010 Alternately, just get some big pinned bear trap platforms and dispense with clips and straps. With a Crank Bros 50/50, you'll have support like standing on an escalator. |

So, what's a good, solid, nonexpensive, non-boat-achor (quill) pedal nowadays? I'm having a lot of fun with some excellent low-cost MKS Pedals : (a) MKS Sylvan Superleggera-style road pedals, from bensbike, at 1/5th the cost ($21.99). bens is the only shop that offers it in black, and their vendio storefront has a lower price than their regular web site. I recommend you buy a lot of these because who knows how much longer bens will be sourcing these beauties from MKS ?? http://shop.vendio.com/benscycle/ite...766/index.html (b) MKS Sylvan 'Lite' pedals with the same weight as campy super-record or RX-1, but only 1/10th of the cost ($19.99) : http://shop.vendio.com/benscycle/ite...972/index.html This is what I have on my 'weight weenie' asian steel bike which is 20 lbs. - Don Gillies San Diego, CA, USA |

O.K., those are not Campy quality, but gawdamighty, the MKS are cheap. I think I was paying that much for plausible SR knock-offs back in the 80s. -- Jay Beattie. |

All good choices, however; if you plan to run without toe clips, at all, only the first of the suggestions, the Silvan touring pedal is symetrical. Why ride a one-sided pedal if you're not going to be running clips? The bottom side is not particularly comfortable or safe. YMMV Phil B |

Why ride a one-sided pedal if you're not going to be running clips? The bottom side is not particularly comfortable or safe. YMMV Indeed. Also worth considering, is that while the Sylvan Touring is a fantastic pedal, it does have a limitation of not having support on the side, so if you want a double sided cage pedal, something like one of the various "mountain" style Wellgo or Dimension pedals that can be used with or w/o clips that have a wraparound cage offer more support. This style used to be be the ubiquitous OEM style that came on most bikes--at least a cheaper version. |
