Jeff Starr wrote: Once again, it's not about the speed and people who really do live their lives "to the max", laugh at you. Actually I think we all laugh at you. Life is Good! Jeff I don't laugh at Bill. I find his stories extremely interesting. I can honestly say, there is not one Bill story I "haven't" read since I started posting. ;-) When I see his posts I know I am either going to be entertained, amused or just say WHOA, COULD THAT BE TRUE??? He is unique. I love it. Unique is an understatement with me. The grandkids don't even believe the stuff I try, not always with success, like the downhill dump into a pile of sand with a mouthful of sand. They all thought I had finally killed myself until I got up spitting sand. And this IS Bikes. "MISC" isn't it? ... I think I come here and check in for the "MISC," I would never torment people on Bikes TECH.... Plus I feel like I am tormented trying to "read" Bikes.Tech. It gives me brain damage. (That's as good excuse as any for my crazy behavior) :-0 Needless to say Bill is never boring. He makes me smile. That's a good thing. That is what makes life good. Who knows if it is bull****. The tricycle at 40+ MPH was bull**** since I took a car down the same hill and only coasted up to 25 MPH, but it was also a troll that got a lot of bites. The nearly 200 on a motorcycle was closer to truth than fiction but I/we will never know and I will never even try it again. So let it be considered bull**** and I won't mind. All of the other stuff I have actually done in my longish childhood of 56, and I have to feel sorry for the ones who think that being able to ride a pace line at 26 is the ultimate rush. Who the hell cares if its bull****. It is funny, he makes me laugh, he is unique. He is not ridiculously serious about life. He knows how to have fun. I can tell. I just arrived home from Atlantic City where I blew all my money on the slots. So I am not buying the navigator. ;-) I had a fabulous time. I know I could have purchased that bike I want, but I opted for a casino weekend. Life should be filled with many adventures. Adventures of all types. Play the nickel slots near the door and you will make more money and probably have just as much fun. The first slots are meant to get you farther in and lose more. I learned that in Vegas and Reno. Now I am taking my bike out. It's absoultely gorgeous in Jersey today. It was cold at the shore. But people were on the rides at the steel pier. I had a view from my window. The lights were on and everyone was enjoying themselves. It was WONDERFUL! My niece told me she was having a blizzard on Friday in Nevada and she couldn't even see the mountains. I told her it better stop before I come out there in May. Well I just stopped in for a minute and saw Billy Boy being badmouthed so I figured I would put in my 2 cents. (as always) Neil and Rich (about to be kill filed, Rich that is), as usual. Bill and I have alot in common. We both drive some of the people on this group nuts. WAY TO GO BILLY BOY. The world needs people like us. ;-) Some of the people on this board are just mad because I dare to ride a Huffy and a cheap Mongoose and not a $6,000 bike. People who live life to the max. People who may not have all they want, but want what they have. Live, Laugh, love and be happy. Be kind to strangers and always wear clean underwear. That is living life to the max. Love and all the good stuff. Much of the reason I don't do hard timed training rides is because I am too sociable on the bike and will stop and bull**** with strangers along the way or help with a car problem. It isn't all about the bike or me when I am out there. Maggie - Tapped out from the slots and going to ride my cares away. ;-) PS..I hope I come home with a good riding story. Probably not, but hoping. Thanks Maggie, Bill Baka |

Who the hell cares if its bull****. Many of us care because he gives questionable advice to people who don't know they shouldn't listen to him. Why would you call it questionable? I just advise people to evaluate what they are doing or want before spending a ton of cash on a LBS bike. I also advise being able to work on their own bikes when possible. Carry a minimal amount of tools and be prepared for breakdowns. If you buy a cheap $100 bike and decide you hate riding then you are not out that much, but if you jump in with a kilobuck bike you are out a lot more. I don't advise people to ride like me but to go out and have fun, and that doesn't include max heart rate training. The riding will get you into better shape than a couch any day. If I kill my Huffy or Mongoose someday beyond repair I will just salvage the expensive parts I have put on each bike and wait for another deal to come along. That is my style. To each his own. The tulips are up nicely and even the Peonies are above ground. Snows gone, except a few very small banks, in sheltered areas. You know what they say about snow storms, a good snow storm is one that lands some place else!!! W |

Bill, whatever you do DO NOT buy a cheap cyclometer for that purple girls bike. You'd be absolutely crushed to learn how much your actual mileage /does/ vary from what you claim (and sadly, may even believe). Why spend the $9.38 plus tax at walmart to become disillusioned. Ron |

Just so you know. There is no need to explain that your story about riding a trike to over 40mph was false. We've pretty much figured that out. I've seen you state that it was a fabrication and troll in several posts now. I cannot imagine why you feel the need to explain it, or why you think explaining it makes anything better. Some of the people on this board are just mad because I dare to ride a Huffy and a cheap Mongoose and not a $6,000 bike. It ain't about the bike. It's about the bull****. I don't even know who made the frame of my road bike and I found the Gary Fisher mountain bike in a pawn shop. It's a fairly decent bet I've got less cash in my bikes than you do. Nobody cares if you're spending big money on a bike but if you are advising people to do things that are not sensible for a new rider with minimal mechanical skills you should get called on it. Much of the reason I don't do hard timed training rides is because I am too sociable on the bike and will stop and bull**** with strangers along the way or help with a car problem. You don't go riding up to people and start spouting outrageous bull****, do ya? Well, probably given what we know of you. Never mind. Ron |

Ron So you are saying that both Mapquest and Yahoo maps are wrong in their approximation of the mileage and my cars odometer too? Who are you, the god of mileage measurement? I am just going out to ride as much as possible and anything I do over the measured mileage points adds toward a century. Some can't be ridden and has to be hiked but it all adds up. Bill Baka |

In the case of the new rider, I/we do not know that a new rider is 16 or 60 but anyone who has even $200 to spend on a bike must know something about bikes. I can't imagine someone over 16 who has never even been on a bicycle before. Most of what I said was that if it made him happy it was a good choice 'for him'. You don't go riding up to people and start spouting outrageous bull****, do ya? No, but I did spend a fair amount of time talking to a guy who had his pockets stuffed full of beer cans and no water to climb a small mountain. He said the beer gave him more energy for the climb and he felt better at the top (feeling no pain?). Mostly small talk, and not always about bikes. Bill Baka Well, probably given what we know of you. Never mind. Ron |
