Do you own a fix? Do you ride a fix? Or do you just like to bloviate
about things you don't understand?

Maybe the guy's chainline is off. If so, he needs to get it right. He
can tell whether or not his chainline is straight by looking at it.
Does it look straight? It is.

Those of us who ride fixies regularly understand that a slightly
overtight chain makes a characteristic noise. This is no big deal. You
can either readjust the wheel, or (especially with a completely new
drivetrain) just let things wear in a little. Just shut the hell up and
ride. The beauty of a fix is that you don't have to get into geeky
obsessions about adjustment. It is a simple, robust, system. Difficult
to **** up, and always fun.

FINALE: I took my bike to a local fixie shop. The chain alignment was
off a bit. Centered the chainline and redished the wheel. Now the noise
is minimal/normal, and will decrease with time. This new fixie rider is
hooked. Word.
