Default Harnett County bicyclist hit by car, killed...

Driver never slowed and was driving whilst his license was revoked.

"
The driver, Edward Shane Yarbrough, 39, of Holly Springs, did not slow down as he approached the bicyclist, McRavin said.

Webster was wearing a helmet and reflective clothing and had reflective lighting on his bicycle.

Yarbrough is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failing to reduce speed and driving while license revoked."

Out of idle curiosity, is "death by vehicle" now only a misdemeanor? I
thought I remembered it as a bit more serious crime.

Anyone else noticing that most of these recent bicycling fatalities are the so-called very rare "Struck from behind" run downs?

These bicycle fatalities tell us that there are drunk or otherwise crazy drivers who do not respond to road position, reflective vests, flashers, etc., etc. They say little about what measures make us safer around ordinary, non-drunk, non-psychopathic/homicidal motorists -- which, IMO, comprise most motor vehicle traffic. These stories certainly bolster the separate facilities arguments, but they are not so frequent to justify spending the billions necessary for a nationwide, parallel bicycle transportation network. Take comfort in knowing that these same crazy people kill more motorists than bicyclists. They kill people on sidewalks and sitting in their own homes. The solution is a crazy and/or drunk kill switch, but Pep Boys would probably sell a work-around.

If your (apparent) hobby is scouring the internet for the rare
intentional motor vehicle murders of cyclists, perhaps you'd better join
Joerg and bump along back country trails where your only worries are big
carnivorous animals.

Or better yet, find some jogging track and ride around and around it.
Even sidewalks won't be safe enough for you.

That's funny! You search for murders of cyclists, post them here, then
use your "Struck from behind" schtick to imply... what? That a bike
lane would have saved them?

And you call _me_ a troll?

in all fairness, you meant "most of the recent _highly
publicized_ bicycling fatalities".

I read a lot of local news across the country and it's every
day, everywhere, a mixed bag of errors, crimes and
tragedies. No pattern is evident to me.

Yep, we're an inventive species.

Such as the local woman who, after several drunk driving
convictions, taught her four year old daughter to blow into
the ethanol detector interlock installed in her car.

No, prob an upgrade for non vehicular traffic.

Concept moves responsibility for death into a new lower quality evidential area ...a wider door for aragment
