Nothing special. Most bikepaths between towns look like this outside rush
hours. What I wanted to prove is that you can easily avoid crowds even on
Dutch bikepaths in contrast what many foreigners believe. They only see the
youtube films of big city bikepaths during rush hour.

Yeah, I was being facetious. We have bike paths in Montreal that are
sometime crowded. Then you just take an alternate route. The issue
here on rbt is that in some people's minds, the existence of bike paths
is a threat that they'll be forced off the road completely.

Find "Broekhuizen, Limburg, NL" on Google Maps. You can even look around
there with Street View.

Looks like a nice tranquil ave to ride a bike. At least when the google
camera was there.

I can take similar photos on bike paths around here. As I said, there are some I enjoy riding, especially when they're fairly empty.

But I can also take photos of (say) a certain 16 foot wide multi-use path (it was once a normal road within a park) with four pedestrians walking abreast across the right side, and a dog walker plus two roller bladers simultaneously taking up the space on the opposing side, all reinforced by more of the same just beyond.

BTW, that facility has a bicycle speed limit of 10 mph. (No speed limit for rollerbladers or runners, though.) Gosh, why would anyone not want to ride there?

BTW, did they build those paths to spare the cyclists from all the terrible traffic on the adjacent road?

Do you have to be such a sour drag, Krygowski?

Some of my lanes are narrower, less well paved (with broken edges), and filled from side to side between high hedges by tractors speeding along pulling swaying trailers heaped with bales of hay.

I could put up with the caviling of political railroad minds on the forum in return for such a lovely place to ride.

There is a website somewhere about a study that found that most Dutch
cyclists were entirely urban, and rode something like less than 1.2
miles one-way for nearly all their trips. Very, very few rode more than
5 miles a day total. ...As well as what you are pointing out--that the
few paths that did exist out into rural areas went largely unused.

"and they call this bike commuting?!?!?"
