Not sure how the theft prevention feature works since no one would leave
a $100 or so light on their bicycle if it were parked in an area where
theft was a problem.

We Europeans must be either stupid, careless or rich, because we leave our lamps bolted to our bikes all the time.

our impression of Euro small vehicle and Turbo parking is park and pray for the thieves are about and actively thieving. That parking is roulette, thieves are the house.

As in Mexico or 3rd world countries only sophisticated....

The bolted on ones aren't the problem - its the ones people can just unclip
and walk off with.

A GPS equipped IOT lamp would lead the cops right to the thief.

If it leads to a stash of stolen bicycles, there could even be a reward.

It's Europe versus the U.S. that is more likely the problem.

My daughter had half of her Mirrycle mirror stolen in Santa Cruz. In
some areas anything not locked down will be quickly stolen, seats and
seat post, lights, pumps, wheels. I wonder how the thief sold have a mirror.

I wanted to get her a new bicycle but that's the last thing you want for
a transportational cyclist in Santa Cruz.

It's not a Europe vs. U.S. thing. There are plenty of neighborhoods in
the U.S. where one can safely leave an unlocked (or barely locked) bike
with no real risk of theft. And there are neighborhoods in Europe where
anything not welded in place will vanish.
