[OT] Bird flu
My parents are away until March and have 8 hens outside (someone else
feeds and waters them and collects the eggs). If the Government requires all poultry to be brought indoors I'll have to drive the 30 miles over there, clear out the shed, find some straw for the floor, somehow catch 8 hens which don't know me, get them into the shed and shut the door. In the dark, if it happens before the weekend :-( |

Okay, you can only grab 2 at a time and the others might wake (although it's surprising what they'll sleep through) but it works and I prefer it to looking like a prize pillock pointlessly pursuing pestilential poultry Of course, the ones I catch are usually introduced to Mr Axe a few seconds later, which is a pretty good way of ensuring they are not vectors for H5N1. In the dark, if it happens before the weekend :-( We used to keep chikens when was small and they had a small house where they roosted at night so presumably your parents have the same or do they have no shelter from the weather. As for catching chickens I know two methods a) chickens often come running when food appears so a corn trail to the shed might work. b) if you can corner one then stick your arms up and out the chicken thinks you're a large bird of prey and goes into "freeze mode". At that point you pick it up and tuck it under your arm and transfer to shed. have fun Julia |

You want one of these:
http://www.mindfully.org/Technology/...g-Machine4jun0 3.htm and I found the video http://www.seanos.net/videos/harvester.wmv Like something out of Wallace and Gromit isn't it? The description of calmer chickens feeling more 'in control' doesn't really stand does it? |
