In the landfill bin round here. The *only* plastic that they recycle is
plastic bottles. No lids, no caps, no tubs, no trays.

In my bit of the world, the green bin is the black bin as that's where the
recyclables go. The non-recyclables go in the green bin which is not green
at all.

Generally, the plastic from which the tops are made cannot be recycled
(the plants to do so do not exist), so tops go in the landfill bin (of
whatever colour) and the bottles go in the recycling bin.

Better still give them to someone who has a use for them. Someone on my
local freecycle was asking for them a while back (no idea what for!).

Hereabouts, in the black bin bag for landfill, along with most of the
rest of the plastic. North Somerset council is very picky about what
plastics they will accept at the "recycling centre". For kerbside
collection, the amount of plastic they collect for recycling is zero, so
most people don't bother at all.

That depends on the particular top and the colours of the bins in a
particular location.

If the top is made of a type of plastic which can be recycled in the
area then it can go in the bin for plastic recycling. This will
usually be indicated by the triangle and a number on the top, though
sometimes the number is replaced by letters.

Of course recycling is near the bottom of the waste hierarchy. Far
better to refuse, reduce or reuse.
