KTLA n I smiled....

rough country...the designated spot looks like a gold mine operation, steep with debris at bottom. never there only past the Rose Bowl.

Last winter rider died of hypothermia in the Cleveland 'Forest' way south of Altadena.

Hiking up there...quiet..Pacific often below and away...grasses on clay with a few trees escaped from fires.

From www.bonellipark.org/ above Rt 66, the weather is warm but looing up and directly across almost at arms length the Gabriel's can be covered with snow.

City to snow to desert...

California has gone communist, the big lie is that
government money falls form heaven.

Margaret Thatcher noted that socialism works until you run
out of other people's money...

Ambulance charges are different from search and rescue (SAR) charges, although there might be cross-over in some states. A few states have laws allowing local or state emergency services providers (police, fire, etc.) to recover SAR charges from the "victim." Some states tie reimbursement to criminal activity -- if you're doing something criminal, then you have to pay for your own rescue. In most states and with most rescues, the tax payers eat the expense. The Coast Guard and Navy don't charge for some super-expensive sea rescues.

I can't believe the millions spent saving dogs from cliff faces. I could get the dog down for about $.50 with a .30-06. If someone wants their dog, cat, ferret, etc. off a dangerous helicopter-eating rock face, I'd make them pay in advance. Way back when I was working ambulance, the fire departments quit getting cats out of trees because too many firefighters were getting hurt. I mean really, when was the last time you saw a cat skeleton in a tree. They don't need us.

Owners should pay to save their dogs when they let them wander on to some cliff face.

Rescuing is a risky activity, which we have learned here in Oreygun . . . over and over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZPTFgXQEu4 $15 million down the tube.
