No biking today. Or tomorrow I suspect (some cat content)
Too much snow here in NYC. It's easily 3.5 feet in the backyard,
mostly caused by the wind gusts since we had around 18". I had to dig a path through so I could restock the birdfeeder and get the snow off the evergreens. I'll need to tie the evergreens back together when it gets a bit easier to work back there. I had to remove the window from the storm door in order to reach out and shovel away enough snow so I could open the back door. One outdoor cat (named Baby) did show up for feeding. She abandoned the nice styrofoam home I made for her by the front steps (with pet-safe heating pad!) and went under someone's front porch for the duration of the blizzard. But she showed up last night as I was helping a neighborhood girl dig out her car. She must have eaten somewhere along the way since she turned down the Trader Joe wet food I offered. She did eat some nice Trader Joe dry food. I'm going to stop buying the Trader Joe wet stuff. None of the outdoor cats really like it, and my indoor cats won't touch it. I love Trader Joe food personally but haven't tried the cat food. It doesn't seem to come highly recommended. I put my one studded tire on the front of the bike over the weekend but even if the snow wasn't so high all over, the wind is just too insane to be biking around. They're saying the wind will die down a bit tonight so maybe I'll bike tomorrow but the streets aren't anywhere near cleared for the cars yet - it's the worst I've seen in 20 years at least. The plow came down our block only once so far and my moron neighbors threw lots of snow in the street after that. It might have to wait until Thursday before biking is reasonably safe. |

Send your cats to "cat's haven" (Miami Beach). We feed some 12,000 stray cats according to the latest statistics. Bird-feeders though are not welcomed here, and my landlady made me remove mine. The reason is that the scraps "may" go to feed the rats. Funny, cats and rats seem to coexist quite happy. Do the rats eat cat food? One thing, don't even think of coming yourself to ride a bike, unless you can be happy with a short "mixed path" where you share with people and dogs. Things may change in the near future, but it's still up in the air. Change is in the air. Ever heard of the commercial about the "cats' revolution"? |
