It IS a case of the verb, even though it applies only to the verb "to
be".

The tense of the verb is what counts. America was nice to ride a bike
over a century ago.

Actually you must ask "On whom do you place the blame?" The ending of a
sentence with a preposition is something God would not put up with.

Only the Roman God; Anglican Gods are just fine with sentences that
have prepositions to end with...

Indian gods, for example, don't have to bother with "Queen's English."

That's why I like Tantra in some sort of practical way.
