Default Put a helmet on that commuter

An important message from Diane Reklis in Palo Alto, who doesn't ride
a bicycle herself but nevertheless knows what best.

Put a helmet on that commuter

It was great to see you feature Mario Capra, who has logged 70,000
miles commuting by bicycle (Page 1B, May 18). It is too bad you
showed him riding without a helmet -- that may be legal, but it is
extremely unwise. The Mercury News should look for better role
models. My husband, Bob, has commuted by bike from Palo Alto to
Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale for more than 20 years, and a similar
number of miles, and he wouldn't be caught dead without his helmet.
I hope Mario also avoids that fate.
