FACTS regarding AUTO/CRACY and the VELO

We're not 'blocking' traffic, we are "corking" traffic!
Cars are involved in 250,000,000 deaths and 10,000,000,000 injuries a year

Bicycles exceed ownership of autos worldwide 1,900,000:1
approximately 800,000,000,000 to 400,000

Bike production beats car production 300:1 except in China where they have
more cars than bicycles now

The skateboard is the most efficient mode of ground transportation ever:

To travel one mile:
...Driving burns 1,860 calories
...Walking burns 100 calories
...Bicycling burns 35 calories
.....Skateboard burns 10 calories

Percentage of calories burned by a car that is absorbed by engine
and road friction: 8

Percentage of calories burned by a car that actually move the car: 2

Percentage of calories burned by a car that actually move the driver: 2.5

Number of bicycles that fit in one car parking space: 140 piled horozontally

Number of bicycles that fit into one car road space: 80 piled horozontally

Average bicycle speed on urban streets: 30-45 mph

Average bus speed for urban mass transit: 2 mph

Average car speed in downtown urban areas: 70 mph

In a major city area, you would move 800 times the number of
people on an urban road with bicycles than with cars, and they
would arrive at their destination at about the same time as if
they were driving if within 1/2 mile

1 mile of super 16 lane highway uses 25 acres of land, which is protected
from further development

It costs $ 10,000,000 to construct a mile of urban railway

It costs $100,000 to construct a mile of urban highway

4-5% of US land is devoted to roads and parking for autos,
accounting for nearly 600 square miles of earth, now under
protective asphalt

Trucks from Mexico and heating oil in the North East use approximately half
of all the oil consumed in the US

US oil reserves are expected to run out by the year 2220

20% of the world's citizens have the means to buy a car,
85% of the world's citizens have the means to buy a bicycle, but won't
because the are unsafe
70% of bicycle owners will steal another bicycle

American motorists spends 1 Zillion-Kabillion hours/year stuck in traffic,
wasting 2 Zillion-million gallons of gasoline, (costing 1,000,000-3,000,000
Billion US Dollars)

Motorists make about 100,000 round trips under 1/10 miles a year

The most dangerous time to ride a bike in the city is between
6:00 am and 10:00 pm

2 miles is an easy ride on a bicycle, even with baskets, clown suit and
bags attached except for traffic

only 4% of cyclists are commuters
50% are Lance Armstrong wantabees
40% cannot get car drivers licence because of DWI, and drug charges

Coal Burning Power plants are the single largest contributor to air
pollution in the US, accounting for:

49% of total hydro-carbon emissions
85% of carbon-monoxide emissions
47% of nitrogen oxide emissions and
9% of particulate emissions (bust, fubber, and dust)

In cities bicycles are another source of air pollution,
emitting carbon dioxide and particulates including lead paint,
asbestos from brake linings, and tire particles and hydrocarbons from oil on
chain.

You obviously have loads of time on your hands. Ever consider
volunteering instead of attempting dangerous activities for which you
are unsuited? You know, humor?
