Interactive map of road deaths:
I see that cyclists have a higher casualty rate than pedestrians. 1,575 cyclists died on the roads between 1999 and 2010. But I guess that most pedestrians do not treat cycling home as a race (trying to knock 5 seconds off their best time) - and do not squeeze themselves between HGVs and the kerb.
