I'm trying to help out a local bike club to get a more prominent
sign up to tell folks to wear their helmets.

Why?

It's definitely a two edged sword. On one hand, yeah some doof might
get hurt and sue the land manager for no sign. If the park already has
a small sign with "helmet required" on it though, there should not be a
prudent jury in the country who would find a land manager liable. On
the other, cleansing the gene pool is not such a bad thing, at least
according to Darwinism. Maybe that's why j pouloser aka puddinhead
disappeared. He bumped his empty noggin and is now at a terminal BYOB
(bring your own bib) drool party.

I was wondering when Darwinism would come up. What I have found is that if
you mention anything to one of these fools they get defensive. So I agree if
they are too dumb to know and too stupid to care, let natural selection take
it's toll. In actuality I would imagine this type of behavior lends itself
to other activities in there life and it is really only a matter of time for
them.

I tend to laugh and say, "Hi Gene (or Jean if a female)", referring to
Gene or Jean Poole because they probably aren't going to be in it for
long.

Though I've crashed many times and have broken a few helmets in my day,
I would never be so bold as to actually say a helmet saved my life.
Sure, it saved me from a few dings and maybe some more severe
concussions, but doubtful that it actually was a life/death situation.
If I crashed hard enough to die, even with a helmet on I'd probably
still die.

You're funny. The place that Darwinism comes in is where people think that
bicycle helmets can save their lives. They do nothing but prevent cuts,
contusions, and bruises. It's comical how many people ignore the physics
and miraculously think a helmet is going to save their lives.

I wouldn't count on it saving my life, but it's possible.
I once crashed on a steep technical descent on to my helmet on a
pyramid-shaped pointy rock. It stuck into the helmet almost all the way
to my head (over an inch probably). Now I know my head is probably
harder to penetrate than my helmet, but if that rock had even gone half
the distance into my un-helmeted skull, it would not have been a good
thing. Sure I might not have died, but I like the think the helmet
helped me avoid a very nasty injury.

It's been a while since I read questions like:

"do you drive with a helmet on?"
"do you shower with a helmet?"
"do you walk with a helmet?"

On second thought, no.
