Default Safety gear

Following on from mb's message. . .

Well, it seems to be that time of year again...

I was out this evening for a longish ride [1] and I was glad I had my
safety glasses on as the amount of bugs was amazing.

Should I wear some sort of face mask though? I mean how much nutrition
is there in several thousand flying insects and do I need to take extra
food with me?

95% of us here carry water. I thought of taking orange squash but found
the hard way that it's not as 'clean' for washing the face (and eyes).
