New Muni Decision
I'm either going to get a Nimbus MUni and upgrade it as my skill progresses $189 .. I like this but the frame isnt all that great and the cranks/hub arent splined..the cranks are very weak. Get the Onza Muni and stick with it until i eventually get brakes and possibly a air seat with reeder handle - $399 I like this except for the small tire size...and its only $50 less than KH. So if i were to buy a new tire/tube and fix it on it would be only about $20 less than the KH. Or the KH24. I would get the gazza tire upgrade and eventually buy a brake kit as well as a better seat. I have no complaints on this unicycles specs...although itd be nice if the frame were offered in more colors...but I like the black so no big deal. What should I get in your opinion? If you have other suggestions post them as well. -- fluffinator007 - Expert UPD'ist ------------------------------------------------------------------------ fluffinator007's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/4757 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/29898 |

KH24 remains the best deal for a serious MUni. You can treat it like an old Chevy Nova, in that the base parts will always be there, will probably last indefinitely, and you can upgrade the details without having compromized on the basic components, such as frame, axle, etc. -- johnfoss - IUF Director John Foss, the Uni-Cyclone "jfoss" at "unicycling.com" www.unicycling.com "I went to the Liberace Museum and the Elvis-A-Rama Museum on the same day! Thats sorta what i was thinking...If i were to buy the Onza i would just wish I'd bought the KH24 and if i buy the nimbus I'd eventually just turn it into the KH24...The KH24 is actually what i voted for in my own poll. But i just want to see how the unicycling community feels. I wish the guy who voted for the Onza left me a response as to why.... -- fluffinator007 - Expert UPD'ist ------------------------------------------------------------------------ fluffinator007's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/4757 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/29898 |

save some cash and just get the KH with the stock tyre.its plenty fat enough.i think that the Gazz is over-rated on this forum, its heavy, sucks on pavement and even worse in mud. -- jagur - Random Unicyclist --------------------------------------------------- -Forget_Your_Life- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jagur's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/502 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/29898 |

why onza? I bought kh one mounth ago and they are very poor manufactured. I know that it's hard to belive but that it's true. the hub is not symetric. That parts when you mount cranks iz longer from one side that from another. The difference is about 4mm. then the crown is leaning to one side. then the seat tube is wih the angle to the crown. to add I cannot eliminate the clicking sound from right crant. no matter how strong I will put the bolts... read the forum many people complains last time. I dont't want to be badly understand. The idea is very good. The frame project is very good. I like it very much. But propably I will have to rebuild the frame to make it straight. If you want that unicycle wait until they will change it. thats my opinion -- jorkee ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jorkee's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/4846 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/29898 |

jorkee, maybe you got a lemon.... My KH24 is nice and straight.. The KH24 is one heck-uva MUni. You will love it! Take Jagur's advice and just get the standard Duro tire. Later on, you can upgrade if you want. The duro is waaay less expensive anyway... so you wouldn't be losing very much money if you decided to get the gazz later on, and put it on yourself. Just so you know, I got the KH24 with the standard duro, and bought the gazz separately. So I had a chance to ride it a little with the duro, before I put on the gazz. Yeah, the gazz has a little more volume, probably better treads, but is it worth about $60 more dollars to you? If you want it later on, then get it. -Jess -- Jester2000 - http://www.jester.tk '[image: http://jester2000.unicyclist.com/~jester2000/images/jester_trans_green.gif]' (http://www.jester.tk) '[image: http://jester2000.unicyclist.com/~jester2000/images/sig_picture.jpg]' (http://www.jester.tk) Check out my website: 'Unicycle Jester' (http://www.jester.tk) My Gallery: '' (http://www.unicyclist.com/gallery/jess) Coming soon: www.unicyclejester.com ! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jester2000's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/3662 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/29898 |

New Muni Decision
I've just increased the votes for the onza to two... As far as I can see the differences between the two are pretty negligible. They're both pretty much indestructable and will both do pretty much the same thing. A while ago I was of the mind that were I looking for a new muni it would be the onza with an upgraded 3" tyre, but through Roger's arguments and riding Redwelly's onza a bit I don't really see all that much lacking with the current tyre. However, what hasn't been mentioned yet is the difference between the hubs and cranks. Go take a look at them; the 'KH hub' (http://www.unicycle.uk.com/Images/Shop/khhub.jpg) and the 'onza' (http://tinyurl.com/3etrv). The KH... well, it'll do the job, but it is big, black, square and, well, kinda ugly. As opposed to the onza, which... - is noticeably lighter; - has cranks which are much easier and quicker to install and remove (take two allan keys into the shower? Hell no!); - has smooth, rounded corners and surfaces, and a funky "onza" logo; ...but most importantly are *so damn shiny* you can't help but feel they're the best unicycle part you ever laid eyes on. They just look so fine it is sometimes a shame to cover them in mud, but when you attack it with the hose and that chrome shines through like a ray of sunlight on a rainy day you know you made the right choice. I don't have an onza muni, but I do have the onza hub on my muni. I'll give it up when you pry it from my cold, dead hands, and even then it'll be after a fight. The Onza is damn pretty. I voted for the pretty one. I'm saving up for the Nimbus 26 myself. I noticed you're definitely going for a 24". Is that recommended over the larger 26? I was thinking it wouldn't make a bad 'round town commuter in the off season, eh? -- sockmonster - Level 4 Funny how in this forum, no one thinks it's weird if someone says, "I tacoed my giraffe..." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sockmonster's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/4286 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/29898 |

Ok Splined hubs are good but you can beat the hell out of square tapered hubs for a while and they will hold up just fine. People have used them for years with no problems. Before you drop $500 on a uni think about a few things How much do you weigh? How big of drops are you doing right now? How big are you going to go in a year? Most people only do drops under 3 feet. Even then that is still big when your flying down a trail. If you dont believe me find a trail in your area and drop it on your current ride going at speed. For the average person they dont need a splined hub because they will never put thier uni through the abuse that will break hubs. The Nibus frame is plenty strong, I have one and so do alot of other riders that beat the crap out of unicycles. I dont think I've ever heard of anyone breaking a frame with out running it over with their car. As far as tires go I agree with Jag, although I have a Gazz tire on my current set up they cost alot and their are good alternatives for them that will ride better on most stuff. Having a 3" tire does help with some stuff but a 2.6 isnt bad either and will be alot lighter so you can huck it arround easier. Spending alot on your first unicycle should only be done if your sure its something you are going to do to balance out the cost. In my opinion upgrading is better than buying an expencive kit that your not toatally sure if you like/ need all the parts. When you upgrade you can find out the stuff you like better and what you dont and purchase things based on that with experience. I think you should get the Nimbus 24" Save your money and upgrade as you find out what you like. If you want to make the jump to a splined crankset do it when you know your going to use it and need it. -- Checkernuts - Me Fail English? New Muni Decision
Chex took the words right out of my mouth. I ride muni with a square tapered hub. the only time i wanted a splined was when doing urban trials (until three weeks ago i only had the muni). now that i have a trials (onza, which rocks) i have no need for a splined on the muni. unless you are in vancouver or some place like that where you have the chance to do monstruous drops on an average trial, you won't regret the square tapered. i chose the OTHER category. i have miyata airseat yuni 26" frame nimbus x cranks bulletproof pedals suzue, alex dx32 wheelset from uni.com the only thing i would want to upgrade is a brake and the frame. i can definitely feel the flexiness of the yuni. the prob is that the next best frame is hundreds and hundreds of dollars. a brake would be cool but i am fine without it. the kh and onzas are great deals but you can save 250-300 by getting the nimbus or OTHER PS i recommend the miyata airseat for muni, especially if you go on long rides that contain some monotonous, untechnical parts. your butt will thank you. -- muniracer - Hell On Wheel The Hell on Wheel Unicycle Gang owns you!! http://www.unicyclist.com/gallery/albuq25 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ muniracer's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/4339 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/29898 |
