seat posts: alternative to thomson?
I have a thomson masterpiece on my trials uni. But I need to buy another one cause I need it to be longer (350mm). oh, I have a cf seat base from scott wallis. so why does everyone go with a thomson seat post? why not any other seat posts? are any others lighter? I am not worried about breaking a seat post cause I ride seat in front for pretty much all my trials lines. my hand wont break it. let me know -JOE -- JosephCampbell www.myspace.com/josephcampbell ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JosephCampbell's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/15412 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/68377 Posted Via Usenet.com Premium Usenet Newsgroup Services ---------------------------------------------------------- ** SPEED ** RETENTION ** COMPLETION ** ANONYMITY ** ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.usenet.com |

seat posts: alternative to thomson?
I bought a Phillips seatpost from a bike shop once and thought it would do the same thing as any other rails seatpost. The top part of the seatpost was press-fitted into the Aluminium tube for the post, and not welded or connected properly. So when I put my T7 on the Phillips post the top part refused to stay straight as the press-fit twisted in the hole. It was very annoying and I went back to the bike shop where they replaced my seatpost under warranty, saying if it happened again it wouldn't be replaced. It happened again. So I got a Thomson. According to their hype they are the best seatpost- the reason being that they are carved out of one piece of aluminium (they probably spell it aluminum though). I used to have one on my Wilder, and Nathan Hoover had one on his Coker so I figured I might as well get another one too. It is one less weak point on the unicycle- put the front end at the back if you want to tilt your seat up. I've heard some people have had trouble with the KH rails seatposts twisting as they are two pieces too, but I guess they are better than the Phillips. If you have short legs you will not have the twisting problem as the seat clamp holds the top part tight. Thomson seatposts are good! Expensive, but I have no regrets from buying them. -- Rowan ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rowan's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/3772 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/68377 Posted Via Usenet.com Premium Usenet Newsgroup Services ---------------------------------------------------------- ** SPEED ** RETENTION ** COMPLETION ** ANONYMITY ** ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.usenet.com |

You can use a Primo Rod post (hevier and cheaper than a Thomson), but only 300mm at UDC: http://www.unicycle.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=602 But nothing is as strong and light as a Thomson. Even lighter than most Carbon seatposts. -- unijuul www.unijuul.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ unijuul's Profile: http://www.unicyclist.com/profile/13774 View this thread: http://www.unicyclist.com/thread/68377 Posted Via Usenet.com Premium Usenet Newsgroup Services ---------------------------------------------------------- ** SPEED ** RETENTION ** COMPLETION ** ANONYMITY ** ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.usenet.com |

Thompson masterpiece is the best seatpost out there. Although masterpieces don't go above 350mm, Thomson elites go over 400. I'd get one of those. Take a look on ebay, the often have fantastic deals. You must be really tall (6'4"+ ?) to want such a high seatpost. -- Danni 'Sliver Trials Course' (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64079) 'Calgary Trials Vid!'
