every artist with a lathe makes pedals. here's part of UV's selection.
I use Nashbar bear traps at $12 with plywood covers for big feeet.
round ends work real good against the road's surface

RIGHT. over on the bike rack at the superduper here at Terminal
Over the years, MKS occasionally appear on small framed and quite old
'racing bikes'
cream of the crop so to speak. sadly always running on a last gasp of
lube but still tight as a drum.

Universal's supply ahs me stumped. How to tell what from what size
wise. I guess yagotta hunt each one down via the web. I bought a set
with cartridge bearings and quality seals but the dang things were
tiny and went back across. I shuda seen that from the listed weight.

UPS is bringing a single speed IRO cross frame I'll be setting up with mustache
bars for mild trails and bad roads and otherwise having fun. Clips and straps
make sense unless I race it and that I'm equipped for that.
So, what's a good, solid, nonexpensive, non-boat-achor pedal nowadays?

I'm sure Christophe will still have straps for me,
So, what'd you expect from a tiger.

I think I was paying that much for plausible SR knock-offs back in the
80s.

They're quality too, last seemingly forever under the most abusive
riders/conditions. Still made in Japan, first rate.

This about the closest thing to a consensus answer I've ever seen around here.
Thanks guys and MKS thanks you all.

Mind that the POV comes from a wrenching mindset on r.b.t more than
anything else--the MKS are quality, you may or may not find them
practical or comfy.

Which brings up a question. Lately, the MKS pedals i've bought have
come in plastic baggies, one with a red label for left side, one with
a blue label for right side. No box. But those pictures from Andrew
Muzi show purple boxes. Who determines who gets a purple box, and who
gets a plastic baggie ?? Just curious, thanx.

You got *colored* bags?? My Sylvan tours came in disturbingly clear
plastic. I just don't feel speshul any more.

New MKS pedals, like everything else, had to be either in less package
or at a much higher price. MKS chose well I think.

It's a pedal, if it spins smooth without bending or breakiing when I stand on
it, it's good. Comfy? If it isn't I need a harder shoe.

Quality at a good price is all I can ask in a flat pedal.

You're right to remind that mileage will vary, but a needless precaution in this
case.
