My wife was told there are no flexible replacement lenses, the expensive ones are only glare-free, giving you better night vision. The trick for being able to focus nearby as well is in putting a lens tuned to distance into one eye and a lens tuned to reading into the other. The advantage is that you can kind of see both in the disance and nearby without glasses, the disadvantage is that need separate glasses for reading (one lens plain glass) and for driving (the other lens plain glass). So you takes you pick: either one set of glasses and no reading ability or two sets of glasses and you have minimal reading and distance ability both near and far. If you are referring to LASIK replacement of eye lenses then I can assure you that the one eye ""for close" and one eye "for far", isn't a handicap. LASIK is repair of lenses, not replcement of lenses. Your natural accomodation abilities are unchanged by LASIK i.e. slowly deteriorate with age. Here, we're talking about replacement IOL lenses after a cataract OP. There are standard lenses, bifocal lenses and, as I have learned today, also accomodating lenses (weird that the cataract specialist in Germany did not know that in May - at 45, my wife would certainly have paid a lot of money to get these; maybe they're not approved in Europe yet). Sorry, I wrong in calling it LASIK as what both I and my wife had done was the replace of the lens in both eyes. -- Cheers, John B. |

I had just been made conscious and discovered my $88,000 bank account to be less than $20,000, I had no car and no insurance on my house. All of my bikes and gear had disappeared, all of my guns disappeared. A quarter of a million dollars in musical instruments disappeared, who knows where. I'm curious about the details there. I play many musical instruments, but I can't imagine having that dollar amount in instruments unless I were selling them commercially. What were you doing with a quarter million dollars worth of instruments? Do you remember? Well, fiddles made by some Italian bloke, or another, are going for more than a million. It might be one of those. Do you have even a passing idea what professional level guitars and basses are going for? Not to mention I inherited my younger brother's original Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster along with the Fender Twin Reverb amplifiers . I had a Les Paul Custom in the original black with ivory trim and a Les Paul hollow body. I had two Rickenbacker guitars, an original Rickenbacker bass plus a Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster bass. Each of these had its own Fender Bass amplifier and these were the four 12" speaker models And there were several high end acoustical guitars. I told you that I had played professionally but apparently you don't believe that. What do I care? Why do people that know nothing always want to pretend that they do? Oh, are you telling us that a Stradivarius, i.e., a fiddle made by an Italian Bloke, aren't worth more then a friggin guitar no matter who made it? https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...or-instruments -- Cheers, John B. |

I no longer go out at night at all, unless I'm following an ambulance to the hospital, and with Covid, there is no point in doing that. I vididly remember my first light: Yay, rah, no more curfew! Then I discovered: I can ride after dark. I can ride in bitter cold. I can ride when I'm tired. But only two at a time, and when it gets dark before I want to come home, I have to do all three. Still, having a light was fun while it lasted. -- Joy Beeson joy beeson at centurylink dot net http://wlweather.net/PAGEJOY/ |

(I recently read an article about "petro masculinity" - the belief that it's manly and patriotic to burn as much gas or diesel as possible.) I must say, you 'mericans are a very strange people. I've met those who thought drinking more beer than anyone or fornicating with more women, or even simply being taller, was proof of whatever it was that appealed to them. But burning gasoline.... I knew a guy that caused a crude pipeline to break, he probably burned up more hydro-carbons in the half a day it took to put that out then the average guy could in a month with his pickup, even if it had twin exhausts. Unfortunately the owners of the crude oil didn't subscribe to the "Petro-masculinity" theory and the guy lost his job :-( I haven't ridden my bike at night for, oh, about 90 minutes now. What sort of light do you connect it to that doesn't burn out? https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/b&m-hl.php Those lights are definitely not limited to 9 mph. Mine have been over 30 mph. They are used for overnight randonneuring events like Paris-Brest-Paris. I hope it doesn't rain because those things refuse to work properly when wet. Other than that a bloody good light. https://www.renehersecycles.com/my-pbp-bike-lights/ |
