Trouble shifting with new utegra/mavic wheelset
I have a Trek 2300 and 3 wheelsets:
1) Rolf Vector Comps and a 9 speed 12-15 cassette 2) An 8 speed dura Ace wheel that I use on the trainer with a 9 speed 12-23 3) A brand new Mavic Open Pro laced to Ultegra 9 speed Hubs - with a 12-25 cassette I can use the first two wheels without adjusting the derailleur The Dura Ace wheel fine with 3 turns of the barrel adjuster BUT When I install the Ultegra mavic Wheel: The chain brushes the spokes in the 39-25 and will not engage in the 53-12 (it will engage in the 39-12 though) The other the 7 inner gears work fine - Is there a way to make the ultegra/mavic wheel "compatible' with the other two without adjusting the rear derailleur? All of the cassettes are either brand new or slightly used - the chain has but a few hundred miles on it - Thanks |

I can use the first two wheels without adjusting the derailleur
The Dura Ace wheel fine with 3 turns of the barrel adjuster BUT When I install the Ultegra mavic Wheel: The chain brushes the spokes in the 39-25 and will not engage in the 53-12 (it will engage in the 39-12 though) The other the 7 inner gears work fine - Is there a way to make the ultegra/mavic wheel "compatible' with the other two without adjusting the rear derailleur? If I'm reading this correctly, it sounds like your Ultegra hub is bringing the cassette just a bit closer to the frame (and derailleur) than the other two wheels. If that's the case, then you need a very thin washer, maybe ..5mm, between the derailleur-side locknut and cone. No need to worry about removing space from the other side, as this isn't enough to worry about. It's possible, though, that there already is such a spacer on the opposite side, and all you have to do is remove it and put it on the derailleur side and all will be well. --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles www.ChainReactionBicycles.com "Gianni Betulla" wrote in message ...
