Yes, yes we were. Certain lazy people weren't though. Three PBs for me -- 15:30 up the climb (5:30 to first checkpoint), a Oh crap, I knew TimC on a "real" bike would be a problem. What's your PB DaveB? I have to try to beat it in 2 weeks time Mate you've already gone past it, 15:40. And I won't be getting close to that again till after the running training eases off after half marathon in October. By then you'll probably be down to 13 mins DaveB |

nuetral rolling start zone. Looks like the team bit may have it's days numbered and we may say hello to the 'solo breakaway' section. Oh great, just when I was managing to hold on to a few wheels along that secton. DaveB |

Oh, I think we might have forgotten to tell DaveB that Clinton's road is now compulsory for everyone but people who blah on top of the timing hill. -- TimC pivot_root manpage: BUGS: Some of the more obscure uses of pivot_root may quickly lead to insanity. |

was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea: This was my first 'Audax'.. The route was 103kms from Lancefield around Mt Macedon (up Mt Eliza) and back... From what I am told, Audax are not races, they are 'rides'.. heh I went on my first not-a-race today. 150km from Parkdale down to Portsea and back. Race report? Ouch. OK, maybe I should write more Left Parkdale at ~8:00am. Early on, the main bunch was just a little too relaxed, so I decided to catch the breakaway. It broke up and there were maybe 8 of us arrived together at the first control point, 50km in (65km in for myself -- I saved an *hour* by riding to the start point instead of catching 2 trains. Sigh, Smelbourne's radial pubic transport system). We got there 2 minutes after the control point officially opened at 9:40. I spent a bit longer wolfing down food there than the rest, and so when I left, there was just me and another guy. We picked up someone else, and worked together, although I think a tad slower than the first leg. Picked up other bunches up the hills to Sorento, and dropped em. Turned around at Portsea, but spent too much time fiddling about to leave with another bunch. Somewhere along the way, someone overtook me, and I held on, and we slowly accreted passengers. I was hurting by this stage, with 90km on the clock, with an average still of 30.8km/h. That's about 3-4km/h better than my 10km commute. Geez, bitch road is far too easy. Should hold Audax rides out in Warrandyte; that'll sort them out. A significant way back (maybe 20mins from the turning point, maybe more -- time flies on a arrow^Wbike), we finally see the main bunch still coming. Got back to the first control point, 115km in (for me), down to 29.7km/h, and legs only just keeping up, with me not being able to take my share of turns on the front. Seems fine, no one is complaining Big lunch, left by myself, but not before someone discovered I lived near him, and he offered me a lift when we finished (we both decided riding back home was a silly idea). I let one rider catch up, because my legs were killing me. We helped each other out, but there are roadworks on a deep tunnel, and the road out of that tunnel (don't know where, sorry) was a killer. Was doing 20km/h most of the way back to ... maybe Frankston? There were about 4 of us working together, at points me getting dropped by them, and other times, me leaping out in front of them (legs selectively taking in the supply of snakes?), two of which were going on at the end to do another 50 to get their 200km. Average crept up a bit again when we came back down from Frankston. One guy said that there was a black Merc next to him down the big hill (why can't I remember it's name?), with the woman looking at him, then alternatly, her speedo. Eh? 'ow's he doing 65km/h? Got back to Parkdale at 14:05; there were about 15 or 20 people already there, and probably another 40 behind us. Didn't see most of them by the time I left. All up -- 165km, 29.48 km/h avg, 66.5 km/h max (it's all flat -- boooring!), 5:40:51h spent moving. Not bad, beat my best avg (for a decent sized ride, i.e BR($last)) by about 2 or 3km/h, beat my dinky little commute by 2 or 3km/h, and did it for a ride that is 40km more than I have ever done in a day. All up a great event by Audax with an excellent course and great catering. Was great to finally get out there with other HCC members and have a chat too.. stamping some authority on the hills didn't hurt either Seconded. Apart from the "respect my authorateeeh" part -- TimC That [Tim-Tam] would be the Classic. Not to be confused with the Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate, and Double Chocolate flavour. (Personally, I prefer Cadbury's Doubles myself. Tim Tams don't taste enough of chocolate.) -- Faceless Man on ARK |
