Shoes, mtb, bear traps
With the discussion on discounted lights at Rebel[1] and the mention of
shoes, I thought I'd ask for brand recommendations so I can update my footwear. The specialised have basically worn out, and the KT26s are fine for walking and gp use, but too soft in the sole for bike pedals. As subject say, mtb use (NO cleats), bear trap pedals and straps, wide feet. TIA. [1] I visited our new Rebel store last night and went woah. It would take a year just to work out which brands are good for cycling. Perhaps that is an indicator that I should go elsewhere, because whilst everthing else was categorised by activity, the shoes were just shoes. |

If you've got pedals on several bikes, years of experience, and are doing a fair bit of walking, I can see it. I prefer being clipped in myself, but horses for courses. -- Dave Hughes | "Hello. Make sure you take some mates with you on your first few rides - they deserve the joy. Expect a few light (almost always at zero speed) falls and an elevated status with your gleeful friends. After that, you'll be tons more efficient than ever possible with those horrible cages. Most important - shoes that are properly fitted and which will dry quickly when (not if) they fill with mud/water. I know you don't want cleats, but take it from everyone who rides with them - there is *no* going back. For my money, I use the Time Atac variety. They never clog and are exactly the same whether you're riding in dust, mud or heavy rain. Just my opinion. Cheers, Dave E (Sydney) |

I haven't fallen over yet. Yes, that's taunting the gods but they're all *******s anyway. Anyone got any copper armour I can borrow? -- Resound |

Languish in the grips of gravity. If not for yourself, do it for your buddies. Hehe I'm off for a 5 hour mud session tomorrow morning and will be probably cursing my cleats from time to time. Can't wait! :-) Cheers, Dave E (Sydney) |

I haven't been playing in the mud though as they're on road bikes (OCR3 and the fixie) even though they're MTB pedals and shoes. -- Resound |

I can fall off the bike and crack my knees enough now, without having to remember that I no longer have straps and need to use another action to disengage. Actually, that is fall over without getting my feet out in time now. Okay, I guess everyone here rides with cleats. MTB use deoes not preclude their use, and they are *so* much better than toestraps. I have toe straps, but they don't get used that much. |
