Bikes-R-Not-Toys Want to buy a bike? Where should you get one? For new and aspiring cyclists, figuring out where to buy a bike can be tough. There are specialty shops, websites with new and used bikes, and mass retail outlets. Depending on your needs, and climate, any of these places can be appropriate. If you want to get a higher quality bike, you should probably steer clear of the mass retailers. A Wal Mart bike will undoubtedly get you from place to place, but it may not hold up to extended rides and abuse. However, almost all recumbents will hold up well for long distances. BikesRNotToys.com explains why you might avoid buying a bike at a mass retail outlet. It's a one-sided view of the issues, but the site operators are very up-front about their beliefs and why they feel the way they do. If you're considering a new bike purchase, make sure you understand some potential pitfalls of buying a bike from a mass retailer. You may decide that you don't need to buy from a local bike shop. The important thing is that you make an informed decision. - By Justin Pritchard Tuesday February 6, 2007 |

Tuesday February 6, 2007 Bikes are toys though, amongst other things. -- Three wheels good, two wheels ok www.catrike.co. (With my luck; BikesRNotToys.com might sell small tricycles, training wheels, and 16 or 20 inch kids bikes!) I do not know about this site, but interesting how this image of toys relates to the attitude thread. At times - my 'bent is an adult toy! I saw a trike in Popular Science magazine yesterday that had a 360 degree wheel, so the trike can spin around almost in its own "footprint". I can see it now- spin around in circles until dizzy as people walk by saying "yup, just a toy." |
