Converting 8spd Chorus to 9spd

That is correct, a 10s ERGO IS compatible with shimano 9 and 10s but a
older,
pre 1999 lever cannot be converted to 10s w/o replacing ALL th
innards, at a
cost rivaling the rpice of 10s levers, new.
