Default Follow up to broken frame - seat post clamp

The other day I came across a sort of seat post that installs over the
carbon fiber "seat post" that is part of the Trek Madone frame.
Replacement "seat caps", as they are called, are sold by Bontrager. As
they are intended for the Madone, Bontrager makes the replacement from
carbon fiber and they are, I though, a bit pricey.

While this isn't going to solve the problem it might be a possible way
to repair the frame. It should be fairly easy to graft a seat tube
extension onto the broken frame, perhaps using an internal sieve to
join the frame and added tube, and end up with a sort of "stub post"
similar to the Madone and then a sleeve, with a clamp on each end
could be used to attach a somewhat shortened seat post to the repaired
stub.

Assuming the frame is steel, silver brazing would be sufficient to
hold everything together.
