Default Cyclists to be held automatically responsible for road accidents with pedestrians.

BREAKING NEWS

The blame for accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians will now lie
solely with cyclists regardless of the circumstances surrounding the
accident. Pedestrians blindly walking into the path of cyclists will now
be able to claim full compensation for damages from the cyclist as the
courts will automatically hold the cyclist to be solely responsible for the
accident.

Tim Makebelieve, spokesman for the Pedestrian Touring Club was quoted as
saying "this is a fantastic breakthrough in the justice system ensuring
that vulnerable pedestrians will never again be held responsible for doing
stupid things like not bothering to look before crossing roads".

So if they walk in front of a car and they suffer damage it is the fault of
the car driver?

That is what some people are campaigning for. It's hard to believe.

Nobody's campaigning for that you numpty, reckless or drunken or
malicious behaviour is specifically excluded, as you'd know if you'd
bothered to check.

Much easier to argue against summat you've made up in your head
though, I spose!

So you're *not* campaigning for the less vulnerable road-user to be
automatically held to account for collisions?

Or just not when the less vulnerable one is the cyclist?

Nope.

Check the definition of 'regardless'.

Or argue with what I've said, if you like.

If an accident is avoidable then everything possible should be done to
avoid it. The common excuse offered by drivers who wish to speed is
that anyone unfortunate enough to get in their way deserves their
fate.

If a cyclist can avoid colliding with a pedestrian and does not do so
then, as I've said untold times, they ought to be accountable.

It's the 'regardless' bit that's hogwash, as I've already explained.

It was a nice try at trolling, but would not fool anyone who knows
what is proposed.

I have no objection to cyclists who collide with more vulnerable
road users being treated the same way as motorists who collide with
more vulnerable road users, in the way that is being campaigned for
as opposed to the twisted way trolls claim is being campaigned for.
No objection at all.

I seem to recall the first time this proposal was discussed dishonest
claims similar to Mr Benn's were made.

Kevin Delaney of the RAC Foundation, for instance, propogated the myth
that a cyclist would be due compensation whatever the circumstances.
This is a straighforward misrepresentation of the actuality and helped
stymie the law change.
