Traffic Cameras: The Sheep are Fighting Back!
You'd assume that the American people would get ****ed when Big
Brother puts x-ray machines that can see their most private parts at airports, or when their telephones are tapped and their emails are being checked, but NO, they are only concerned about the traffic cameras that do indeed a great job of calming traffic and making a little bit safer for those at the bottom of the food chain like cyclists and pedestrians... The right of the predator to run wild is sacred, but the right of the prey to be safe is not. Funny sheep, they are so easily manipulated. "The village of Schaumburg, Ill., installed a camera at Woodfield Mall last November to film cars that were running red lights, then used the footage to issue citations. Results were astonishing. The town issued $1 million in fines in just three months. But drivers caught by the unforgiving enforcement -- which mainly snared those who didn't come to a full stop before turning right on red -- exploded in anger. Many vowed to stop shopping at the mall unless the camera was turned off. The village stopped monitoring right turns at the intersection in January. Once a rarity, traffic cameras are filming away across the country. And they're not just focusing their sights on red-light runners. The latest technology includes cameras that keep tabs on highways to catch speeders in the act and infrared license-plate readers that nab ticket and tax scofflaws." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1238...?mod=yhoofront NOTE: Traffic cameras are common in Europe, where people get rebellious about other stuff. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A jungle perspective on nonviolence: a violent struggle by the weak against the predator needs secrecy, nonviolent struggle though has been used by the monkeys for ages: MAKING NOISE. http://webspawner.com/users/bananarevolution |

It's because the other invasions of privacy are justified as being necessary to prevent terrorism. If someone with a good enough imagination made people believe the red light cameras prevented terrorism then they would have no difficulty leaving them there generating revenue. |

Drivers who ignore traffic lights ~are~ terrorists. If people were smart and sociable enough to understand the basic right-of-way conventions, we wouldn't even need traffic lights! As it now stands, traffic law is dumbed-down to almost the lowest common denominator of idiocy. I say "almost" because I've seen even greater depths of antisocial idiocy plombed upon the iters. -- Nothing is safe from me. I'm really at: tkeats curlicue vcn dot bc dot ca |

Traffic Cameras: The Sheep are Fighting Back!
traffic cameras are only the visible tip of the iceberg.
Most cars come with black boxes that record your driving behavior and are used in accident investigation. Cars can be tracked using on-star or lojack. Cars, and you, can be tracked using your cell phone. London uses cameras to record license plates so then can send out bills for driving in certain parts of town. (Congestion fees). Illinois tollways use cameras to fine those without i-pass units (or malfunctioning units). Homeland Security has been monitoring phone calls & emails since 911. Your boss/company has records of every web site you visit at work. Red light cams to fight terrorism? No way, money is the reason. The cops will say it's to reduce accidents but it affects their budgets. How many politicians have said they need new, creative ways of generating revenue. The biggest problem with red light cams is they are mostly put in by private companies that get a cut and there is no appeal process. |

That's just something imaginary under discussion. If you think otherwise, Prove it! : Cars can be tracked using on-star or lojack. Only if the owner pays for the service! :: Cars, and you, can be tracked using your cell phone. This isn't CSI, Rick. When you dial 911 with a cell phone they can't even tell where you are! You have to tell them! :: London uses cameras to record license plates so then can send out :: bills for driving in certain parts of town. (Congestion fees). :: Illinois tollways use cameras to fine those without i-pass units (or :: malfunctioning units). All lawful. :: Homeland Security has been monitoring phone calls & emails since 911. Some, not all phone calls. Thank George Bush for that illegal activity. :: Your boss/company has records of every web site you visit at work. Only if they pay for the software and install it. Not everyone does that. :: :: Red light cams to fight terrorism? No way, money is the reason. The :: cops will say it's to reduce accidents but it affects their budgets. bottom line: it changes the way people drive, ergo, reducing accidents. :: How many politicians have said they need new, creative ways of :: generating revenue. All you have to do is NOT SPEED through an intersection on a red light. Simple. Pat in TX |

Police: Arrest Made In Photo-Radar Shooting POSTED: 10:50 pm MST April 19, 2009 UPDATED: 10:24 am MST April 20, 2009 PHOENIX -- Police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a photo-radar van operator Sunday night, according to the Phoenix Police Department. According to department spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill, the department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety will hold a joint news conference Monday afternoon to announce more details of the arrest. In the meantime, photo-radar vans have been yanked off Arizona highways as DPS and Phoenix police investigate the shooting, according to Redflex Traffic Systems Inc. CEO Karen Finley. The 911 call came into DPS at 8:52 p.m. Sunday. DPS said the driver, Doug Georgianni, 51, was shot multiple times while sitting in the marked van parked on the eastbound side of Loop 101. Georgianni was taken to John C. Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, DPS said. DPS said Georgianni had been working for RedFlex Traffic Systems Inc. as a driver technician for three months. RedFlex is under contract with DPS to operate the photo-radar systems, which are used to catch speeders and red-light runners. "The entire Redflex family is grief-stricken for Doug and his loved ones," Finley said. "We will continue to dedicate every resource to work with the police to help identify and apprehend the person who took Doug's life. Phoenix police described the shooter as a white male in his 60s with a thin face, unkempt white hair and a white mustache. He was driving a two-toned white and gray 1980s-model Chevy Suburban with black rims and tires and a roof rack, police said. Investigators believe the shooter left the crime scene traveling south on Seventh Street. Police are asking anyone with information to call Silent Witness at 480-948-6377. Reporter Omadelle Nelson contributed to this story. |

These aren't all quite the same thing. Black boxes are something not everyone even knows about and I can't think of a way for the driver to defeat it, but OnStar, LoJack, and I-Pass are the driver's choice. You can opt-out or not buy any of those. OnStar is based on the cell phone network, and it makes no pretension of privacy. Use it at your own risk. You also don't have to use the IPass lanes. Why not look at the safety benefits of enforcing traffic signals, especially as a cyclist? How do you know there aren't procedures in place that prevent all-but- necessary access to your information? Data security is a strong consideration for some other systems under development. Ken Freeman |
