The weather forecast looks good for most of the country on Sunday, and I
hope that those of us who want to will be able to get out there without
having to worry about those vexatious issues that seem to be
preoccupying the newsgroup.
So, may you go without breaking any spokes, wear whatever colours you
want and ride in the part of the road that seems most appropriate with
whatever you like on your head.
Bon route!

(I'll only be able to go out on Saturday and so I may catch a shower,
but there's a tea shop near Long Marsden that just have to revisit.)

Nah. I've done 130 miles this week just commuting. I'm having a day off!

Nah, my handlebars broke and I ended up a mess on the Embankment.

I had a bar breakage some years back, the bars were probably about
the same age. Scary, innit? If you see an old bloke wearing an
orange hat and riding a Brompton along the Embankment, give a wave,
it's me!

Pah, that hand is barely scratched, unlike my bashed up elbow after a TT

If I see you on one of my rare visits to London I'll wave as your
handlebars break and you fall into the Thames:-)

Roger Thorpe twisted the electrons to say:

The vexatious issue that's pre-occupying my cycling is that when I
dismantled my Bacchetta Giro26 to ship it to Europe I totally mangled the
rear derailleur cable. Not a problem you might say, merely get a
replacement! However I tried that yesterday only to discover said
replacement is about 10-15cm too short! :-(

Actually, given that I've never really like the Giro26[1] since my
accident on it in November 2007 I'm thinking that maybe I should get
something else? Probably an upright (I had a Langster in the UK and it
was fun, but I suspect gears could be useful in the alps!), as it
would make it easier to mix and meet with the locals[2].

So the replacement? Well it's got to be an "audax" bike, as that fits
the sort of riding I do and the budget would run as far as a Thorn Audax
Mk3 ... ?

[1] Not because of the accident itself, but the 3 month delay in
getting the replacement parts to fix the damn thing afterwards!
[2] 'Bents are great for the wow factor, but it can be awkward to hold a
conversation whilst riding with uprights.

For the first time in many years I have a week (and a weekend either
side) off at Easter with absolutely nothing planned.

I aim to keep it that way and intend doing just what I want to do, when
I fancy it.

Or not.

A lazy week may be ahead ... I haven't had a good old veg' out for
years ...
