Like all idiots they appear keen to demonstrate their stupidity. More importantly, I'm glad you are well enough to type into a computer. That's a good sign. Thanks, the guy even apologised for harassing me over the helmet issue instead of attending to my bashed up shoulder. He was taken aback somewhat when he admitted that he'd seen hardly anyone wearing one in The Netherlands and I said surely he had treated car drivers with bad head injuries and he had not advised them to wear one. -- Simon Mason http://www.simonmason.karoo.net/ |

Sorry to hear that you were injured Simon and I hope you recover soon. Were you trying to pass the car on the left of it or were you in front of the car? I was riding at 23 mph when a car came alongside me, then saw the right turning car ahead and he turned to the left of this car entering a hashed area with a solid white line into which I was forced and ultimately struck. I was object x in this photo. http://www.swldxer.co.uk/zhash.jpg Thanks for everyone's good wishes. Help - is it broken?
Ok, I admit it, my bike mechanic skills are lamentable, so please don't be
harsh. My bike has a suspension seatpost. Today, I picked up the bike by the saddle and the whole thing came out in my hand. When I tried to put it back it just wasn't working, it wouldn't fit back in at all. My question is, has something broken? There's a picture of the seatpost he http://www.zen132905.zen.co.uk/P9201021.JPG Is this what a suspension seatpost should look like? It looks odd to me. |

I'm guessing here - if you loosen the screw at the bottom it should allow the polymer spring to relax, so it fits in the outer tube again. The bit above the spring probably screws onto the outer tube. Then you'll want to tighten the bottom screw again. |

When I went to A&E to get a suspected broken finger checked out after I came off my bike I too was asked if I had been wearing a helmet. Given my injuries wearing jeans and a jacket, boots and gloves rather than shorts and a strappy top and sandals would have made more difference. -- http://lnr.livejournal.com/ |

What is the unhatched area to the left of the hatching? There seems to be some thing very odd about that section of road (not just that in your photo) as Google Earth shows many people driving down the hatched area. Any idea why? Bad luck, I hope the compensation buys you a really nice new carbon bike. Or a recumbent, that way you land on your arse instead of your outstretched hand... -- Guy Cheers Pal, I'm not really bothered about compo, although I understand that my back wheel is bent (a kind shop keeper has taken it in), a 120 quid pair of sunglasses has gone AWOL and my 110 bibknicks have a hole in them. Really sorry to hear this. *You should sue the driver for compensation, though. *Why should you be left out of pocket? *I am currently engaged in litigation against the driver who nearly killed me whilst I was riding my bike. *PM me if you want a recommendation for a lawyer. Cheers, I am in the CTC and they have their own legal team, but thanks for the offer. I don't know what happened to the driver; he was still on the kerbside when I was stretchered off. Plod wasn't there, so maybe he sloped off home and I didn't get his details, so there might be nobody to make a claim against anyhow. Isn't that leaving the scene of an accident? I think it's a no-no here. John Kane, Kingston ON Canada |

Only when safe to do so; entering it and striking a cyclist because you did not check in your nearside door mirror before undertaking a car is quite clearly not safe, by definition. What is the unhatched area to the left of the hatching?
