I take it all back, his wife explains that he had just cause to lose his

The driver who ploughed his Rolls into a Tesco flipped over a missing
mattress, his wife claimed yesterday.

Deborah Caton said husband Robert had a right to be angry over a "genuine
complaint."

Shoppers and staff dived for cover as Mr Caton, who had been drinking,
smashed his beloved £12,000 Silver Spirit through windows into checkouts,
injuring six women.

Mrs Caton, 43, told the Mirror: "I'm standing by Robert - he had a genuine
complaint.

"We ordered a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a double bed from Tesco
Direct. When it came it didn't have a mattress which we thought we'd paid
for.

Tesco Direct. Aren't they an online branch? So not the local now-
ventilated shop?

Which people was he trying to kill?

Those who could not provide him with a mattress?

Regarding one of our members pushing his bike and trailer around
a supermarket while shopping rather than leaving it outside, this
story shows you are not even safe from cars *inside* the store
itself!
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle6330687.ece

Yawn!

Not interesting. And not relevant to a cycling ng.

Par for the course then.

Nuxxy beware of posting non cycling items, you have a new
moderator!

It is relevant because cyclists need to be aware how drivers may use
their cars when they are drunk and angered. The guy was ****ed, so
quite rightly the store refused to serve him, so he used his car in
a manner which could have killed a number of innocent customers and
shop workers.
Relate that to the road where you have a cyclist being "in the way",
the driver toots his horn, revs engine or whatever. The cyclist
responds with a Harvey Smith, one finger salute or the OK sign,
driver kills cyclist by driving into him.

The overwhelming majority of drivers wouldn't dream of doing such a
thing. That guy obviously had some serious anger management issues.
It does make me wonder though why someone of that temperament has
been granted a licence to drive a motor vehicle in the first place.

A) How do you know he has a licence?

Probabilistic estimate. It is likely it would have been mentioned in the
report if he hadn't.

B) Since when has an appropriate temperament been a condition of
passing the driving test?

It hasn't. It was merely wishful thinking.

meantime I have our little one to look after."

Fair do's

Perhaps if it were mentioned that he did not get the mattress he
ordered, we would all understand his reason for trying to kill people.

He is charged with attempted murder, so the six women he injured one
would suppose.

I suspect that attempted murder will be a tough one to prove and the charge
may be dropped to driving without due care and attention.

Driving without due care and attention seems wholly inappropriate for
someone who has deliberately driven through a shop window in a revenge
attack for not having a mattress delivered.

Dangerous driving and wounding with an intent to endanger life seem
mildly more appropriate.

Bloke's a fekkin' cheapskate.

If he can afford the petrol for the Rolls then he could do better than
Tesco.
Is that why they have protective bollards at IKEA?

You're probably right about the attempted murder charge. But I bet he doesn't
get away with less than dangerous driving.

"Thought" he ordered!

I wondered about that. Surely he could have double checked his receipt/order
confirmation/whatever.

I've bought 5 beds in my life. Two came with mattresses, three
without. You have to be careful - it would be a right pain to arrange
a delivery... and then find out you have to place a second order for a
mattress. It's just the sort of thing that would make any resonable
person drive a Rolls through a shop window.
